Getting a Mini repaired

A light aircraft, so wind and moisture do more damage than a fall.

The Mini weighs under 250 grams, which is exactly why it is so popular: in many situations you may fly it where a heavier aircraft may not. But that low weight has a price. A gust that barely moves a Mavic pushes a Mini a metre sideways.

So a Mini ends up in wet grass, a ditch or a bush more often than its bigger siblings. Moisture is the biggest problem we see on this aircraft, and it is treacherous: after drying it still works, and only weeks later does corrosion start doing its work on the circuit board. If your Mini has been wet, have it checked even if it still flies.

Then there are bent motor shafts. At this weight, one crooked landing is enough to push a shaft slightly out of true, and the aircraft starts vibrating in flight.

Repairs

What we see most on a Mini

Water and salt damage

Out of a ditch, a pond or the North Sea. Fast ultrasonic cleaning is the difference here between saving and binning. Do not switch the aircraft on to test it.

Motors and ESCs

A motor that stutters, an arm that will not spin up, controllers blown after a crash. We replace the failed component, not the whole module.

Gimbal and camera

Small motors that keep shaking, ribbons torn at the fold, an image hanging crooked or soft on one side. Often the result of thousands of folds.
