The Westhoek is open country. Few buildings to shelter behind, few trees to break the wind, and the wind here almost always comes off the sea. For a pilot that means beautiful footage and an aircraft working harder than it would like.

What we see arriving from Ypres is largely wind-related. Aircraft blown sideways on landing and coming down on an arm. Gimbals that corrected against crosswind for hours and whose small motor keeps shaking afterwards. Batteries drained faster than expected, forcing the aircraft down in a field rather than at the pilot’s feet. Mud in the shell is the rule here rather than the exception.

Good news: almost all of it is repairable. A broken arm and a worn gimbal motor are routine work.

Repairs

What reaches us most often from this region

Arms and shell

Broken arms, hinges with play, a cracked underside after a hard landing. Usually the most visible damage and rarely the most expensive.

Gimbal and camera

Small motors that keep shaking, ribbons torn at the fold, an image hanging crooked or soft on one side. Often the result of thousands of folds.

Motors and ESCs

A motor that stutters, an arm that will not spin up, controllers blown after a crash. We replace the failed component, not the whole module.
